BOTANICALS – About this Series
As a child, David Leslie Anthony helped his mother, an avid gardener, with her roses. These early impressions are expressed in the larger-than-life-sized photographs of flowers and tropical botanicals in this series.
Anthony’s lush black and white photographs invite us to view his subjects from a different perspective, transforming shapes that we may see every day with our eyes. Gazing into the stillness of a growing plant, seen in extreme closeup, we become one with nature in a deeply personal way.

DESERT STORIES – About this Series
David Leslie Anthony’s photographs of the Sonoran Desert reverberate with the majesty of that imposing landscape. Each rock, mesquite branch and dune are rendered in intimate detail, becoming as familiar as the features of dear friends. The sun blazes, the air hums. Water crashes in a sacred cave. Pathways lead us through and beyond what is immediately within view. Solitude is comforting in these photographs, a warm embrace in a wondrous world.
These photographs are extremely technical, displaying a vast range of tones and textures, painterly lights and darks and carefully chosen compositions; the vast landscape is brought down to scale by the photographer’s point of view.

SALTON SEA – About this Series
David Leslie Anthony’s photographs of Salton Sea are ethereal, hypnotic, otherworldly. Remnants of the abandoned resort town, now being reclaimed by nature, lose their original meaning and become merely sculptural objects. Birds soar above a nearly invisible horizon. Sea and sky comingle into a waking dream-state enhanced by the meditation of looking.
Serene rather than desolate, these scenes are inviting and peaceful. Anthony conveys the spellbinding quietude of nature, capturing the salt-encrusted abandoned piers and rocky shoreline in exquisite detail and contrasts them with the glassy surface of the lake melting into infinite clouds.
Technically superb, the photographer incorporates multiple light-meter readings and hyper focus to render shore, sea and sky as a harmonious whole.
