Photojournalist Benjamin Dome shares his 20 years of living in Ethiopia with the Mursi tribe. His lens provides an intimate portrait of the triumphs, tragedies, and challenges of their people as the modern 21st century world encroaches on their land, their traditions, and as politics and corruption threaten their way of life—and their existence.
Benjamin Dome presents “A Tribe at the Crossroads: 20 Years in Ethiopia.” In this compelling exhibition, Ben guides us through his time with the Mursi tribe and their challenges with government encroachment on their lands and outside influences on their culture.

Benjamin Dome began his photographic career in London capturing ‘real life’ portraits of people and their stories. At the age of 21, he was one of the youngest war photographers covering the Israel-Palestine conflict in 2001. He has worked for top international publications, newspapers and agencies including Getty Images, the Times and NBC.
In 1995 he was given the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia by Dr. David Turton, one of the world’s leading anthropologists and then Senior Research Fellow for African Studies at the University of Oxford. This introduction to the Mursi tribe led to enduring connections with multiple generations of its members.
As his work as a journalist evolved into a passionate personal interest, Dome formed deep ties that have afforded him unprecedented access to many of the changes the Mursi have undergone due to increasing encroachment of the government and outside influences into their tribal lands and ways.
Dome’s intimate and deeply human portraits illuminate the universal values and challenges faced by this fascinating and largely misunderstood society.
