The striking pop-art colors and strong shapes in Steve Martin’s paintings, sculptures, and printmaking works have captivated art lovers for decades and are featured in private and corporate collections worldwide. His gestural wire figures and powder-coated metal sculptures elegantly distill the joy of movement with a touch of whimsy. Commissions are available. A native of Tioga, Louisiana, Martin was an integral part of the development of the Miami Design District. His prolific creativity is on view in his eponymous Julia Row gallery in the New Orleans Arts District and extends into the publishing world via his international publication, Art+Design Magazine.
THE ART OF FOLDED METAL – About this Series
These fascinating sculptures begin life as a drawing, and then a paper cutout; the artist then scans them and transmits the pattern to a CNC machine. After the forms are cut, he hand-bends them to enhance their dynamic shapes. Full of life and dancing movement, these ‘metal origami’ sculptures are powder-coated in custom colors and can be placed indoors or outdoors.
