Rolland Harve Golden
(American, New Orleans 1931–2019)

Acclaimed southern artist Rolland Golden has earned a place in the canon of American masters alongside Grant Wood, Rockwell Kent, and Edward Hopper.

Born in New Orleans, Golden’s career has spanned six decades.  In 1976 he was chosen as the American realist painter to represent the United States on a tour of Soviet Russia. He has received dozens of awards and accolades, and in 2014 he was honored with an exhibition at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

Golden’s longevity and success as an artist can be attributed to his unique melding of tradition and modernity. Grounded in the deep fundamental training of his academy days, he departs from literal realism toward a ‘borderline surrealism’ in his oil, watercolor, and acrylic paintings. His surrealism has a soft, dreamlike quality that tugs on the imagination to provoke a heightened emotional experience.
